This is actual footage of Jackson Pollock painting and talking about his work. You get a great sense of his intensity. Pollock didn't like doing interviews and became impatient with people that didn't understand what he was doing.
This is one of the best movies I've seen on Pollock, it gave me an insight into his art and his neurosis. Ed Harris is amazing in this film, he also directed it so the viewer could have a sense of context for the abstract expressionist movement. Harris wanted to make this film for years and I congratulate him!
Clement Greenberg(1909-1994) was arguably the greatest art critic of the second half of the 20th century and possibly the greatest art critic of all time.
Pop Art is a 20th century art movement that emulated commercial imagery and reproductions of everyday objects. It was said that Pop art started in the late1950's as a reaction to Abstract Expressionism and flourished in the sixties and early seventies in Britain and the United States.
My child could do that! I think much of the general population has the impression that art is based on aesthetic values and not world class values which contradicts the idea that some of the greatest critical thinkers of all time have been artists.
