You might want to ask your self who you know because the more people you connect with the more art you will sell.

Selling flowers is harder

Keep business cards in your pocket and give them to everyone you come in contact with.

 
Sign up for every website and promotion you can think of including things unrelated to art.
 
Every connection you make will pay off somewhere down the road.
I’ve donated work to various charities to have people show up in my studio 2 years later.
 
I was walking down the street one day with a bag full of art supplies when someone stopped me and asked where I bought them. I gave them my card and 18 months later they showed up in my studio and bought a painting.
 
As time goes on you will see residuals from your promotional efforts.
 
Promote your self and make it a habit!
 
Reputation
You’ve heard the term “your reputation precedes you” , that has never been so true as with selling art.
 
I would say most of the people that purchase my paintings return to see what else I’m doing from time to time. Some people who own my paintings continue to buy them as gifts for friends and family.
Have you ever noticed how people talk about art?
“ I own a Picasso” or “I have several Warhol's in my collection” they’re referring to the artist because that piece of art is their connection to that artist.
 
I have a painting that is a very unique fresco that was created by a friend in art school. When someone asks me about it I refer to it with pride as a piece created by a friend who is very talented.
 
Make sure people know who you are and what you do because people talk.
 
Selling
This is actually the easy part because selling is like butter on popcorn, it brings the whole thing together.
 
You’ve already promoted your self and established a reputation so now all you have to do is ask people what they want.
 
I engage everyone that comes into my studio if only to say hello.
Body language is such a huge part of knowing how far you can go with some one.
I probably talk too much but if someone isn’t talking I will keep engaging them until they talk to me or leave.
 
If someone is sincerely nice to you aren’t you going to be nice back.
Most people are, in fact people will open right up given the proper conditions, so start yapping.
 
Things I say
I don’t have a sales pitch because it sounds so in-sincere to me.
I like talking about art and particularly my own.
I tell people how I honestly felt when I created a specific piece or how one painting might be better than the rest in my eyes.
I’ll talk about how they’re priced and I always say they’re getting a smoking great deal.
I never say anything I don’t believe and that always leaves a good impression.
I tell people I have painted for a long time and the technique doesn’t get in my way any more. I can do more and higher quality paintings in a shorter period of time while focusing on my creativity.
Pricing
Some people think I price my work to low.
My criteria is simple, I want to sell work consistently and I want just about anyone to be able to afford an original GRUD.
My smaller pieces are all under $1000. and anything over 30x30 can go as high as $3000. - $4000.
 
I have a nothing is written in stone policy.
 
3 things to remember
Promotion will help you establish a reputation which generates curiosity which in turn brings people to purchase your art.

Remember! the only way to be successful is to be consistent and to never give up. People will all of a sudden start showing up and buying your art.
